Anyone who has ever heard Robert Jones and Matt Watroba perform knows that they can keep an audience spellbound with their music and their wit.”

Ever since their first meeting, over twenty years ago, Robert Jones and Matt Watroba have been musical partners. Their relationship started when they hosted back-to-back radio shows on WDET-FM, Detroit. Later on they started performing together and in doing so discovered a friendship based on mutual respect and a love for traditional American music. Now Matt and Robert literally travel the nation extolling the virtues of “Music That Matters.”

For Matt and Robert, American Roots Music (Folk, Blues, Spirituals, Work Songs, Chants, etc.) is music that matters. This is the music that America and the world have in common. It is music that reflects history, social change, migration, hopes and dreams. It is music that is rich and diverse, direct and powerful.

“This show delivers a wonderful and powerful message of love, friendship, tolerance: where we have been, where we are, and hopefully where we can go. It is a walk through the roots and history of American music that not only educates, but entertains. Robert and Matt are consummate professionals, and always a joy to work with. Children and teachers love this interactive show, and the evaluations I get are enthusiastic endorsements and requests to present it again.” ~ Jennifer Tobin, Arts Coordinator, Village Theater of Canton.

Mustard’s Retreat

Sunday, July 26th
MUSTARD’S RETREAT

Show time: 5:00 PM

On Sunday, July 26, Uptown Concerts is pleased to announce that we will be presenting the well loved duo Mustard’s Retreat (David Tamulevich & Libby Glover) in a virtual concert. The concert will begin at 5 PM Eastern time. It will be presented on Zoom, though it may also be streamed to Facebook Live and Youtube live: more details to follow.

Mustard’s Retreat has performed for Uptown Concerts for many, many years, and have always been a hit and a favorite. They define themselves and their show as Defiantly Hopeful, and believe that this defines their music, attitude and our community. They sing with exquisite harmonies, uplifting original songs and stories and some old favorites. Come be part of something very special!

The concert is free so that anyone can attend, because that is the most important thing: the root of this is community, not commerce… and sharing a moment together. There will be a Tip Jar, and if you are able, and are moved to do so, you can donate whatever amount of $ you can. The proceeds will be split between the Mustard’s Retreat and Uptown Concerts to help them through these unprecedented times.

Mustard’s Retreat has been delighting audiences by telling stories for 40 years- they are witty, insightful, fun, and profound, as well as accomplished songwriters and musician (guitars, dulcimer, electric bass, mandolin, harmonica, pennywhistle). In addition to being raconteurs and storytellers, they will give you things to laugh about for days to come and remember for years. Tales of stupid frogs, wandering cadavers, haunted bridges and techo-nerds, memories of small towns and high school, first loves and last… and places we’ve been or maybe just dreamed of.
